It is a popular hangout spot with adequate facilities: picnic tables, pay toilets, a small sari-sari store, a chapel, and even a 120-meter zip line attraction. It is likewise the jump-off point to the short but challenging trek up Ayat ni Apo Jesus, a pilgrimage site featuring a Christ the Redeemer statue standing on top of a hill.

The journey to Maranum Falls begins where paved roads end. Like the many attractions tucked in the largely unexplored Caraballo mountains, this gem requires from its visitors some sense of adventure as the 20-minute trek to the falls, short as it may be, is not without its share of complications. The passing scenery of mountainsides flanked by towering trees is indeed distractingly beautiful. However, some narrow sections of the trail demand full attention, where any misstep could lead to a painful slide down steep slopes and to the gushing river below. The hike is most intense at the final approach. Just as Maranum Falls comes into view, boulders of all sizes present themselves as mighty obstacles for the last hurdle. Expect to scramble a little and do some lunges – an effort that doesn’t count for too much if it means being granted the opportunity to swim in this waterfall’s cold refreshing waters and to experience its pounding power up close.
